The dining roomTwo arched doorways lead from the kitchen into the first floor dining/sitting room. Originally two small vaulted store rooms, we replaced a wall with a beam to create one large space.
On one side there's a 19th century tavolo libro dining table that opens out like a book to seat eight, with a dresser full of china and glass. The traditional Tuscan dining chairs are new, stained to match the table. On the other side there's a four-seater snug - cool in summer and cosy in winter with a wood-burning stove in the original fireplace. There's satellite TV with Italian channels and BBC World, plus video, DVD, maps and guidebooks, and a selection of DVDs and board games. A lockable door and internal stairs lead down to the cantina, which provides a self-contained apartment for two. Stairs up lead to the sitting room. |
